My name is hari stephen kumar. I am a graduate student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where I am finishing my Master’s degree in Communication and where, in Fall 2010, I will be starting my doctoral studies in English. I work on teaching, writing, and teaching writing.

I have a previous life as an engineer, including a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Boston University in 2000 followed by eight years of industry experience developing scientific software. I spent the last two of those years as a corporate trainer, teaching week-long workshops twice a month for a variety of clients across the United States. My cross-cultural interests and experiences in teaching and writing drew me away from engineering and into the humanities in 2008. After enjoying fourteen winters in New England, I am finally becoming an American citizen in 2010. My partner Alexis and I have been married since 2005 and our daughter Eliana was born in November 2009.
